President Donald Trump was recently asked if he thinks he was appointed to the presidency by God “for such a time as this.” His response was one of gratitude and hope.
‘For Such a Time as This’
CBN News Political Analyst David Brody sat down with President Trump on Monday to discuss several topics associated with his presidency. Among the talking points were his support from evangelicals and the claim that many believe he was appointed by God.
Brody mentioned that former Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and U.S. Secretary Mike Pompeo assert that God put President Trump in the White House. He then asked the president what he thought of this assertion.
Although Trump didn’t answer the question directly, he did talk about an interaction he had with Dr. Ben Carson, who was running against Trump in 2016.
“Ben Carson said the same thing… And he said to me, ‘you know, you’re gonna win,'” Trump said, quoting Carson. “I said, ‘Ben, I’m running against you. What are you telling me?’ He said, ‘you’re going to win because God put you here for this occasion.’”
I said, ‘what a lovely thing to say.’ That was the first one that I heard, from Ben Carson. And it was during the campaign, I was running against him, and he was saying, I’m gonna win. He’s a very high-quality guy. He’s done a great job in the administration.” Trump added.
Hoping God’s Appointment Is True
Brody circled back and asked Trump if he believes he was ordained by God to be the president of the United States.
“I almost don’t even want to think about it. Because you know what, all I’m gonna do is, I hope it’s true. All I’m going to do is I’m going to do my best,” Trump answered.
The president then steered the conversation toward freedom of religion. He said one of the things he is doing his best with is supporting the religious community. His support goes “beyond evangelical,” although “evangelicals… are very important to me.”
He then went on to share his gratitude for the support from the late evangelist Billy Graham.
“You know, we have great support. I was so honored when Franklin Graham said that his father voted for me. And that was something that Billy Graham has never announced, who he was voting for. But Franklin Graham said his father voted for me,” Trump told Brody.
“As you know, to me that was a big moment because I have such respect for Franklin and for the family and Billy Graham is really great. Now I think I have great… support.”
