Former NFL quarterback and Christian philanthropist Tim Tebow has spent the last ten years assisting people all over the world through his Tebow Foundation which he founded in 2010 after graduating from the University of Florida.
In addition to helping kids in the Philippines — the country where he was born — Tebow also assists those stateside, including the needy in a homeless shelter in Phoenix, Arizona. According to Faithwire, Tebow donated more than 50 pairs of shoes to those who lacked proper footwear.
Tebow made a pit stop at St. Vincent de Paul late last month, bringing with him 50 pairs of new shoes for residents. Thinking he had provided everyone with a fresh pair of kicks, Tebow started to exit the building.
But after he realized there were more guests than he anticipated, Tebow removed his own shoes from his feet and handed them to a person in need.
St. Vincent de Paul CEO Steve Zabilski told local reporters that Tebow’s contributions off the field far exceed anything he’s done on the field.
“If you ask me, or many of our guests, Tim has gone from professional athlete to superhero in just a few years. His actions off the field are as impressive as any last-minute touchdown pass or game-winning home run,” Zabilski said.
Before leaving the shelter, Tebow took down the names of all those who didn’t receive a new pair of sneakers. Later that day, he sent each one a pair of shoes as an early Christmas gift.
Evangelist Franklin Graham commented on Tebow’s selfless act, writing on Twitter that the Christian athlete was “A Good Samaritan for sure.” But his charitable gesture in Arizona is far from the only philanthropic endeavor the Heisman Trophy winner has embarked upon.
Every year, his foundation partners with churches across the country to host “Night to Shine” events that celebrate those with special needs by giving them a prom night they will remember for a lifetime.
His foundation has also worked tirelessly to stop human trafficking by channeling donations to anti-human-trafficking groups, Christian Headlines reports. The Tebow Foundation also provides help for those who have been rescued from human trafficking.
Furthermore, Tebow’s foundation operates its own adoption fund that assists parents with adopting orphaned children around the world. The organization has partnered with Show Hope and Lifesong for Orphans to help cover the costs associated with adoption.
