“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” – Ephesians 6:11, 16
“Yes, it was a miracle,” Lieutenant Del Utop said in an interview with local news reporters. “He is a young officer whose life was saved miraculously,” Oscar Gutierrez, head of the Special Force of the Fight Against Crime of Santa Cruz added.
The young Christian police officer was part of an operation that sought to restore order to the town of Yapacani in Ichilo, Santa Cruz during the Morales Evo protests in Bolivia. During the protests, one of the loyal supporters of President Evo had stolen a gun from an officer and fired it at Del Utop.
The 9mm bullet struck him in the chest but surprisingly didn’t do any damage. In fact, the bullet never even penetrated his chest. According to Gutierrez, Del Utop “had a Bible that stopped the projectile.” He was taken to a Santa Cruz hospital to be assessed but was cleared to return to duty with no injuries.
According to reports, a small blue hole about the size of a small thimble can be seen in the front cover of the blue Bible. There’s also an exit hole in the back accompanied by several torn pages from the damage caused by the 9mm round.
Although Ephesians 6 refers to the Word of God has the “sword of the Spirit,” the entire armor of God is used together to help the Christian defend and fight against “the devil’s schemes.”
As Satan protests the Spirit of Christ in our lives, we must “take up the whole armor of God” to ensure our hearts aren’t pierced by “the flaming darts of the evil one.”
Although it’s not recommended to create a shield out of a hundred pocket Bibles, God’s Word can be used to protect our minds and hearts from falling into sin and temptation.
The more of God’s Word we know and commit to memory, the easier it will be to stay undefiled and tainted from the evil that runs rampant in this world.
