“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” – Psalm 127:3
Whether born or in the womb, all life is precious and sacred. In Genesis 1:27 Moses said, “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” This is a very definitive and objective statement—every life is significant. Each person created has been patterned after the God of the universe and is not something that should be thrown away so easily. Any legislation that enables others to terminate the life of an innocent child purely based on convenience is sinful.
In the Bible, it tells us that the Lord knew the prophet Jeremiah in the womb before he was born.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
We see a similar statement from the Apostle Paul. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul spoke of the Lord, setting him apart before he was even born.
“But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace,” – Galatians 1:15
One of the more astonishing verses on this topic are the words of God through one of His prophets. Isaiah revealed that God formed the entire nation of Israel in the womb. In this verse, Jeshurun, in Hebrew means “upright one,” which is a poetic name for Israel.
“Thus says the Lord who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.” – Isaiah 44:2
A new rule by the Trump administration barring Title X grantees from referring patients to abortion providers has caused Planned Parenthood to withdraw from the grants.
Planned Parenthood refused to comply with the new rule, and as a result, will forfeit an estimated $60 million per year. Planned Parenthood said the provision would severely compromise the care they offer.
Planned Parenthood currently serves 40% of Title X patients. The decision could see Planned Parenthood struggling to keep their doors open.
Planned Parenthood and a number of other organizations, as well as, 20 U.S. states are challenging the rule. However, a federal appeals court said the policy can move forward, going into effect, as the cases are being litigated.
“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” – Proverbs 6:16-19 (bold emphasis added)
While abortion was not a practice spoken of in the Bible, the loss of the life of the unborn as well as the penalty for causing it is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible.
“When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman’s husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.” – Exodus 21:22-25 (bold emphasis added)
