- Christian doctor, David Mackereth was recently fired for not referring to a transgender woman according to the pronoun his patient preferred.
- Mackereth claims that doing so would go against his conscience and religious beliefs.
- Mackereth is planning to sue the DWP for breaching his right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.
- Attorneys use Scripture to defend Mackereth’s position, while also stating that a person cannot change his/her sex or gender at will.
A Christian Doctor has been fired from his government job after refusing to refer to “a six-foot-tall bearded man” as “Madam.” The doctor is suing over his dismissal.
Fired Over Christian Beliefs
Dr. David Mackereth, 56, has worked in the NHS with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for 26 years. But Mackereth was fired over his refusal to use “transgender pronouns.” The doctor said that using “transgender pronouns” went against his conscience as both a doctor and a Bible-believing Christian.
“I believe gender is defined by biology and genetics. And that as a Christian the Bible teaches us that God made humans male or female,” Mackereth told The Telegraph.
While Dr. Mackereth says he believes “we have to show compassion to all our patients whatever their background,” he hopes that the court will not force him to use language “that I consider dishonest and against my Christian faith.”
Doctor Sues, Court Hears Testimony
Dr. Mackereth tells the court he wanted “the right to practice medicine as a Christian doctor.” He believes the DWP breached the Equality Act and his right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.
Attorneys Quote Scripture
Dr. Mackereth’s attorneys, who work for the Christian Legal Center, released a statement that included the use of the most famous Bible quotes from Scripture.
They say that Mackereth was discriminated against because of “his belief in the truth of the Bible, and in particular, the truth of Genesis 1:27 which says, ‘So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.'”
It follows that every person is created by God as either male or female. A person cannot change their sex/gender at will. Any attempt at, or pretense of, doing so, is pointless, self-destructive, and sinful.
