A California church over the weekend baptized nearly 1,000 people along an Orange County beach in what many are describing as a “spiritual revival.”
Scores of people turned out at the Chino Hills-based Calvary Chapel’s outdoor baptism, which was held at Corona Del Mar State Beach on Sept. 12. While the church hosts a baptism celebration at the same location every year, Pastor Jack Hibbs said the latest event was “our biggest to date.”
During an interview with CBN News, Church Director Gina Gleason said she believes “California may be experiencing a spiritual revival.” She described the turnout as “remarkable and a significant number.” She noted that it far exceeded the average attendance of 300 people.
Calvary Chapel posted highlights of the event on its Instagram account. Pirate’s Cove was filled with people rejoicing, taking pictures, and celebrating the love of God on full display.
“I was baptized together with my wife. The heartfelt blessing that Pastor Jack gave us is one that I will carry with me throughout my life,” one man wrote on social media. “Such a wonderful day. Praise our Lord and Savior Jesus.”
Another woman commented, “A day full of memories I will always cherish. My two older boys getting baptized!”
Hibbs has also encouraged people across the state to turn their “homes and churches into sanctuaries” dedicated to prayer and worship. He said he wants to see “a radical move of God” in California.
“Spiritual Revivals” at the beach have gained popularity as more and more churches are meeting outside. In July, Saturate OC hosted “powerful worship sessions on the beach” every Friday night. Participants heard the gospel, were baptized in the ocean, and were set free by the Holy Spirit.
Worship leader Sean Feucht described the sessions as “a return back to a gritty, raw Gospel, Jesus people movement foundation.” Over 200 Christians gathered on the shore in Huntington Beach to praise God.
Feucht also shared a video of people gathering in Pismo Beach recently, worshiping and singing to God.
“Thousands gathered on the beach to worship Jesus and wow did God show up and blow our minds! The church rallied with unprecedented unity! Dozens were saved and so many baptized! God is coming for California!” he wrote on Instagram.
Feucht also told CBN News, “Something profound is taking place on the West Coast. There’s a courageous church rising in California that refuses to be silenced.”
