Bachelorette contestant Ivan Hall is explaining why Tayshia Adams decided to send him home following a surprising conversation about religion.
Hall was one of the final two men, along with eventual winner Zac Clarke. Read on to learn more about the situation.
During Tuesday night’s finale, Adams pulled Hall aside prior to the rose ceremony to discuss their differing opinions about faith.
This moment was shocking to fans, not just because Adams was getting ready to send Hall home, but because viewers had never heard these two discuss religion before.
“With you, I feel like, since the very beginning, I feel like we started off really strong, and we found that trust. But also, this past week, we talked about some important subjects that I feel like we both needed to have. But there are some things that kind of posed concern,” Adams told Hall during the episode.
It was then implied that the pair discussed religion and faith during their Fantasy Suite date, which was not filmed.
“I wish I could say that there were a lot of red flags prior to this week, and there haven’t been. At the end of the day, religion is part of my morals, my beliefs,” Adams shared.
Hall then explained he was nervous about bringing up his religious beliefs — which aren’t stated during the episode, by the way — adding, “All the girls I have dated in the past, it never ended because of religion or anything.”
He continued, “But I know that’s something that’s important to you, and I do apologize for that, and I wish I did bring it up a little sooner. That is the roadblock for the two of us.”
But, despite their differences, Adams had nothing but respect for Hall. “I really do think the world of you.”
Though it was clear from the episode that Ivan and Tayshia did not see eye-to-eye when it came to religion, their beliefs were never explicitly stated.
However, former Bachelor star Caila Quinn messaged Hall on Instagram and asked him why he and Adams ultimately broke up.
Hall responded, saying, “She only wants to date a Christian and I’m not religious. I’m open to and have dated any religion.”
Adams does have the Bible verse Psalm 46:5 in her Instagram bio, which says, “God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”
