Actor Kevin Sorbo is teaming up with Oxford professor and Christian apologist John Lennox to demonstrate how faith in the biblical God and science are uniquely connected. The pair hopes their new film can help others see how the systematic study of the world and religion go hand-in-hand.
Sorbo, known for his roles in “Hercules” and “God’s Not Dead,” and esteemed mathematician John Lennox came together to film a documentary that will “unpack theological and scientific proof of God.”
“Against the Tide: Finding God in an Age of Science” will present profound answers to help believers defend the Christian faith and see how it seamlessly conjoins science and religion to prove the existence of God.
“The biggest thing that holds Christians back is our lack of confidence… when we are approached by people who want to look at the science of God,” Sorbo said. “And apologetics is a way to battle that and John does it in such an amazing way.”
Sorbo, who spent numerous hours with Lennox as they worked on the project, said the highly-acclaimed theologian was able to destroy the arguments of some of the best-known atheists using logic intertwined with love and kindness.
“I learned so much from John,” Sorbo said. “It was incredible.”
Prior to becoming an actor, Sorbo grew up in a Lutheran home and was very active in his local church. During a recent episode of “The Pure Flix Podcast,” Sorbo said he attended worship on Sundays and youth group on Wednesday nights.
At just 13 years old, Sorbo had an encounter with the late Christian evangelist Billy Graham. While attending an event in which Graham was the keynote speaker, Sorbo said he felt compelled to walk toward the front and speak with a nearby volunteer about Christianity.
“I sat down on the grass with this guy,” Sorbo recalled. “And all of a sudden a hand went on my head and I turned around and there was Billy Graham. The full moon was directly behind his head. He had this glow… it just always stuck with me.”
Several years later, Sorbo wrote about his experience in a compilation book titled, “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Billy Graham & Me.” Upon reading the story, Graham reached out to Sorbo and asked if he would be interested in going on tour to promote the book.
“Against the Tide” will be in theaters nationwide on November 19 as a one-night-only event. Watch the trailer below.
