Attitude in life makes all the difference, and developing a loving attitude backed by faith can be transforming. Here is a three-line prayer that can help you create an attitude of love, faith, and confidence.
One of the most influential self-help books is called “The Power of Positive Thinking,” written by Norman Vincent Peale and published in 1952. Peale held Bachelors and Masters degrees in theology and a Doctorate of Divinity. To date, the book has sold over 7 million copies and has been translated into 15 languages. The book delivers on the promise of its title, backed by a foundation of faith.
In a chapter entitled “I don’t believe in defeat,” Doctor Peale recounts the story told to him in a letter he received from a gentleman. The man told a story about his father, a traveling salesman who was plagued by a lack of success at his trade.
“Then one day, a fellow salesman gave Father a copy of a little three-sentence prayer,” the man told Peale in the letter. The man said his father’s life changed dramatically after that, simply by praying that simple prayer every day.
Here is the three-line prayer that Doctor Peale attested to as being life-transforming by putting your problems in God’s hands. The prayer Peale says will change your mental attitude and harness the power of faith.
Pray this prayer daily:
1. “I believe I am always divinely guided.”
2. “I believe I will always take the right turn of the road.”
3. “I believe God will always make a way where there is no way.”
Let’s examine the above three-line prayer against what the Bible says. What you will find is that there is scriptural support for each of these affirmations.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
“For God speaks in one way, and two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds,”
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6
“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
“But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
“Call to me, and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
– Jeremiah 33:3
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
– Matthew 7:7-8
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
– James 1:5
